This September,
Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum will present True
Metier: Call For Entries 2006-2007, featuring the winners of CAF's annual open call to tri-county artists —Christine
Gray, Bob Mask, Team Hyperbole, and Ethan
Turpin. This exhibition marks the second time that selected artists will be exhibited together in a large group exhibition, this time occupying CAF’s Klausner, Norton, and Library Galleries.
The exhibition title comes from the French word métier, meaning an occupation, a trade, or a profession for which a person is particularly suited; one's specialty. True
Métier is thus a celebration of skill, talent, and potential; emphasizing the simple truth that art-making is for these gifted individuals, a calling, a vocation, a true métier. |

Jane Callister
Velocity
about the BLOOM
PROJECTS series
Santa Barbara-based artist, Jane
Callister will create a new, site-specific installation entitled, Velocity. Callister's project combines the whiplash splashes and seductive drips of her earlier paintings with oozing puddles of poured paint onto vinyl adhered to the walls. Liberated from their traditional confinement on canvas her painting comprised stickers spill onto the floor where they gather to create a dreamy landscape of multi-colored tide pools nestled between rocks carved from Styrofoam. |
