Sonotube® Forms: Contemporary Art and Transport

In this exhibition, the sonotube, a staple in any gallery, artist studio, or museum storage space, is used as a central motif to address the way portability, economy, and ease have become essential factors in the growing expediency and itinerant art world of traveling exhibitions, international art fairs, biennales, and so forth.  35 artists from around the world will been sent a hollow sonotube with a request from CAF that they fill it with an artwork of their choice and if desired, installation instructions for their work as well as the shipping tube itself.

Bloom Projects

James Van Arsdale
(Safe Inside My) Green Zone

Scouting games, toy army soldiers, war movies, and Westerns comprise artist James Van Arsdale’s artistic vocabulary. These subjects, found in the mixed-media installation (Safe Inside My) Green Zone, suggest a boyish nostalgia with a particularly sinister undertone. Resembling a fictional war room, (Safe Inside My) Green Zone refers to the military designation for a fortified compound, maintained by heavy firepower and designated as a safe site.  However, as current conflicts demonstrate, these green zone areas provide little more than the illusion of safety for those located inside its imaginary borders.
